MusicFest 2026

From the Music Room — A Trip Down Memory Lane

Thursday, July 2, 2026 · 6:00 PM · Mai Home (private residence)

A trip down memory lane.

The second main event of MusicFest 2026 takes place on Thursday, July 2 at 6 PM. From the Music Room – A Trip Down Memory Lane invites listeners into an intimate musical space where cherished memories, familiar voices, and new discoveries gently coexist. This concert evokes the feeling of opening the door to a well-loved music room — a place where past experiences linger in the air and each sound recalls a story.

Anchored by the timeless elegance of Mozart, the expressive lyricism of Brahms, and the emotional sweep of Tchaikovsky, the program reflects the foundations of classical tradition that so often shape our earliest musical memories. These beloved works are paired with music by contemporary composers Paul Wiancko, Andrew Waggoner, and Kurt Rhode, whose compositions reimagine nostalgia through fresh harmonic language, rhythmic vitality, and unexpected turns.

The addition of clarinet to strings, piano, and percussion enriches the ensemble’s palette, allowing warm, conversational textures to unfold alongside moments of brilliance and playfulness. Together, these instruments create a sense of closeness and reflection, guiding audiences on a journey through remembrance, imagination, and the enduring power of music to connect us to where we’ve been — and where we’re going.

This concert is lovingly dedicated to Kathryn’s late mother, Barbara Lockwood — a beautiful person, a fabulous clarinetist, and a profound musical influence. Her spirit, artistry, and love of music resonate throughout the program, making this evening not only a celebration of memory, but a heartfelt tribute to a life beautifully lived through sound.

Advance Tickets: Adults $65, Students $25. Tickets at the door: Adults $70, Students $30. Tickets include a themed reception after the concert.
